1997 Hospice with the support of the William and Elaine Kaplan Family Charitable Foundation purchased 800 Stony Brook Court in Newburgh to house our corporate headquarters and the "Children's Grieving Center".
1975-76 Three founders, Helen Marie Boyle, Gertrude Schneller & Helen Swanwick conduct a community meeting to assess the need for a Hospice in Orange County. 1997 "Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc." received it's first JCAHO certification.
1981 The "Hospice Planning and Educational Foundation of Orange, Inc." was formed by the founders and a board of directors in Middletown, New York. 2000 "Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc." became the second Hospice in New York State to implement the use of laptop computers for the field staff for charting and documentation.
1982 Sister Ann Daly was hired as the first staff person. First volunteers trained. 2003 Plans were developed and a Certificate of Need was obtained for the creation of a Hospice Residence.
1982-88 Hospice volunteers see patients, and staff grows to 5 people. 2004 Hospice embarks on a capital campaign to raise $4,000,000 to build the "Kaplan Family Hospice Residence".
1988 "Hospice Planning and Educational Foundation of Orange County Inc," merges to form "Hospice of Orange in Hudson Valley, Inc." 2005 Hospice was named the "Non-Profit of the year" by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
1988 Dan Grady is hired as the Executive Director and Dr. David Mendelson M.D. is hired as Medical Director. 2005 Hospice received the "Quality if Life Award" from the Orange County Partnership.
1988 "Hospice of Orange in Hudson Valley, Inc." receives Medicare certification and began providing an interdisciplinary team approach to Hospice services in Orange County. 2006 In August the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence opened.
1988 Thirty Nine patients were served. 2006 Hospice received the "Pillars of the Community Award" from the Greater Hudson Valley Health Center.
1988 Hospice opens offices in St. Lukes Hospital and the Arden Hill Hospital Campus. 2006 Dan Grady received the "Ruth Bennett Award" for humanitarian efforts from Sullivan ARC.
1993 Hospice began servicing the people of Sullivan County. 2006 Eight hundred and twenty-eight patients were served. 46,191 days of patient care were provided.
1993 Dr. Robert Dinsmore became Medical Director. 2007 Hospice receives the "Spirit of Caring Award" from the Orange County Untied Way.
1994 Four hundred and seventy-six patients were served. 25,534 days of patient care were provided. 2008 20th Anniversary.
1996 First nursing home patient was admitted.
