How is Hospice different?

HOSPICE offers palliative care (comfort care), rather than curative treatment, for individuals who are diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less.  HOSPICE care includes pain and symptom control to enable the patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible. Our special kind of caring treats the person, not the disease, and considers the entire family, not just the patient, the "unit of care."  Patients and families are included in the decision-making process.

Our staff is always willing to answer questions, and to serve as a resource for needs or concerns of the patient or family. All hospice services are provided under the direction of the patient's personal care physician

When is the right time to call Hospice?

HOSPICE care is a specialized form of treatment and service for a patient with an advanced end stage illness having a life expectancy of less than six months.  If you or someone you care about is terminally ill, call HOSPICE today. The more time HOSPICE has to work with the family, the more HOSPICE can help. All Orange and Sullivan County residents are eligible for HOSPICE care.

Referrals to HOSPICE can be made by concerned family members, friends and clergy.  Anyone can make a referral or inquire about services by calling (845)561-6111.

Who pays for Hospice?

Most, if not all, of hospice services are covered by major health insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid.  In cases where individuals are uninsured, sliding fee scales are available.

Hospice shall not deny services to anyone on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, or handicap. Admission to Hospice is on a basis of need rather than ability to pay.

How can I help Hospice?

Become a HOSPICE volunteer.  You will feel good knowing that you have made a difference in someone's life. Call our office for information.

Tell others about HOSPICE. Help ensure that everyone knows HOSPICE services are available. If they do not know before the need arises, it may be too late.

Donate to HOSPICE . Community support ensures that HOSPICE services will be available for all who are in need. Not all patients have insurance. Of those who do, their insurance may not reimburse HOSPICE for all services provided. HOSPICE receives no reimbursement for our bereavement services, which are free of charge.
